TL;DR;

WelcomeKidsZone (WKZ) is a platform that helps parents find child-friendly places in their local area, ensuring a comfortable and welcoming experience for both parents and children.

As a product designer, I was responsible for designing the WKZ platform, including the product design and overall brand design.

Our ultimate goal is for WKZ to become obsolete. We are designed to be deleted. We believe that when the app is no longer necessary, it will be a sign that the world has changed to embrace and welcome children and that families can enjoy any public space without fear of judgment or discrimination.

Goals/ Objectives

The primary goal is, to create a web app-mobile first-that allows parents with young children to find child-friendly establishments in their local area easily.

Objectives:

  • Create a user-friendly interface for parents to search for child-friendly places based on location and accessibility.

  • Maintain a verified database of child-friendly establishments (Supporters)

  • Promote child-friendly policies and amenities to encourage businesses to prioritize them.

Research

Through secondary research, user interviews and surveys, I intended to:

  • Understand the user’s pain points and needs;

  • Discover what’s the society/community’s general thinking about the no-kids zone

  • Document and define the user's mental model and behavioural.

  • Build user personas based on the research.

- Desk Research

There were survey about the ‘No-Kids zone’ from the Hanguk research company. There were 1073 people who participated to this research. Surprisingly, only 18% of people disagreed to ‘No Kids zone’ even people who have children (69%) agreed to ‘No Kids zone’

- User Interview

Four parents and four non-parents who were against "No Kids Zones" participated in this interview. The interviews highlighted the challenges faced by families due to these policies and the need for more inclusive public spaces. Some non-parents supported child-friendly businesses, and 28% of respondents opposed "No Kids Zones" as a form of child discrimination.

Persona

Based on research, we could create the main user and secondary user that we can target while we are solving the problems. We were asked to consider accessibility, inclusivity and quantity as the main keywords. They would like to know a lot of places as many as they can.

Primary persona (Main user)

Secondary persona (Future supporters)

They, GenZ, are highly interested in meaningful businesses. They value advocating against "No Kids Zone" policies and promoting inclusivity for children in public spaces.

Opportunities

"How might we create a platform that helps parents easily find and choose child-friendly establishments in their local area?"

“How might we create a community that leverages inclusivity and embraces minorities, so they feel welcomed and comfortable?”

Ideate

Based on our understanding of what users need, we developed our ideas and made a list of goals of our app and possible features that can solve users' pain points and make our app stand out from this ridiculous phenomenon.

Where we are standing. Inclusivity-Accessibility, Building community-advocating and easy to use and find places as many as users can.

- Design direction

As a visual thinker, after user research and defining the target audience, I started design direction while I was building wireframes and user flow.

Our key was #Children, #Potential and #Seeds_to_Bloom.
